Full Home Renovations in Toronto

A full home renovation lets you keep the neighbourhood, the lot and the house you love, and change almost everything else. Ecocor Construction has been renovating homes in Toronto and the GTA since 2016. With 157+ completed projects and 19+ industry awards, we know how to take an older house apart carefully and put it back together as a home that works for the way you live now.

One team from design to final walkthrough

Whole-home renovations involve dozens of decisions and many trades. As a design-build company, Ecocor gives you one team and one point of contact for the whole project. We collaborate with architects and interior designers on layouts and finishes, then manage the trades, the schedule and the budget so the design you approved is the home that gets built.

What a full renovation can include

  • Opening up the main floor and reworking the layout
  • New kitchens and bathrooms
  • Basement finishing, or a legal secondary unit
  • Structural changes such as removing load-bearing walls
  • Updated plumbing, electrical, heating and ventilation
  • Insulation, windows, doors and new interior finishes throughout
  • Additions and second-storey additions where your lot allows

Planning for older Toronto homes

Many Toronto houses are decades old, and opening walls can reveal old wiring, outdated plumbing or past repairs that were not done properly. We plan for this from the start: we inspect what we can before work begins and explain the likely risks, so you can make informed decisions. Work that changes structure, plumbing or the layout of the house generally needs a City of Toronto building permit, and we coordinate drawings and inspections as part of our process.

How we manage your renovation

1. Consultation. We meet at your home, listen to your goals and talk through priorities and budget.

2. Design and selections. We work with you, and with your architect or designer, on drawings, finishes, fixtures and materials.

3. Permits and scheduling. We plan permit time, material orders and the sequence of work before construction starts.

4. Construction. We work through the house room by room with regular updates, and we keep the site as clean and organized as possible, especially if you are living nearby.

5. Walkthrough. We go through a detailed checklist with you and confirm all required inspections are complete.

Frequently asked questions

Can I live in my home during a full renovation?

It depends on the scope. For a whole-home renovation, most families move out for at least part of the work. We’ll talk through options for your project.

Do I need a permit for a full home renovation in Toronto?

Most full renovations involve structural, plumbing or layout changes that need a City of Toronto building permit. Ecocor coordinates the drawings and the permit with you.

Do you work with my designer or architect?

Yes. We collaborate with outside architects and interior designers, yours or ones we recommend.

Should I renovate or build a new custom home?

It depends on the condition of your house and your goals. We can compare a renovation with a custom home build.
